Porvoo Art Hall concerts: Chamber Jazz Quartet

The Chamber Jazz Quartet, partly composed of musicians from Porvoo, will perform in the Soiva Taidehalli concert series in April 2026.

After World War II, jazz in the United States was in a state of transition. Several new styles emerged, and one of them was ‘cool jazz.’ This style, developed on the West Coast, combined the increasingly intense jazz with calmer melodic lines and a touch of ‘intellectualism’ borrowed from classical music. One of the most renowned creators of the style was saxophonist Gerry Mulligan, whose quartet made a breakthrough in Los Angeles in 1952.
