Suurlähettiläät’s first single marks its 35th anniversary this year. The band was awarded an Emma statue in 1992 and achieved multiple gold records and two platinum records. Suurlähettiläät became widely known for numerous hits such as Kun tänään lähden, Elokuun 11. , Maailman laidalla, Kuka pysäyttäisi kellot?, and Pitääxunaina?

The band’s frontman is singer Jussu Pöyhönen, who has also continued his music career as a solo artist. The lineup has remained unchanged since 1993: Mikko Mäki – drums, Andy Saarnilehto – bass, Jay Havanna – guitar, Kaappo Karvala – keyboards, Pekka Vaaherkumpu – trumpet, Kari Hurri – alto saxophone, and Petri Viitala – tenor saxophone.

The band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2011 but returned to the stage in 2018. Suurlähettiläät has left a lasting mark on Finnish pop music, and their songs are still played on the radio. In honor of their 35th anniversary, the band will embark on an extensive tour in the summer and late 2025.
